Recipe: Building a Delicious Wild Game Salad

Building a good tasting and nutritious salad can be difficult but it definitely doesn’t have to be! This recipe is my go to weeknight salad that’s delicious and filling but not as heavy as pasta. You can add or omit any ingredient that suits your personal taste but this is a great base to start with. Ingredients: Venison loin, or any other wild-game steaks Salad base, such as baby spinach, Romaine lettuce or any other greens of your choice Baby carrots Avocado slices Cheese,

    Tools for Scouting

In July, I started scouting for elk. I started early because this was the first year I’d be focusing on elk. I tend to have mule deer fever and that is all I can concentrate on. This being the case, I didn’t have a good elk spot. Hunting public land in Colorado can be competitive so finding a spot is done mostly through using brain power and a more than a little bit of sweat. Here are a few tools that can help you scout and hunt smarter, not harder. OnX Hunt Maps Concurrently

Recipe: Fresh Caught Ceviche with Corn Salsa

Summer is coming to an end, but extend the summer fun with this great recipe for ceviche. This is best made with a firm, white meat fish. I use fresh, river caught Australian Barramundi, a type of Sea Bass. This is great for a light, healthy meal or an appetizer for your end-of-season barbecue. CEVICHE Ingredients 1/2 pound fresh fish, diced (works best with white fish, the firmer the fish, the better the results) 1 TBSP lime juice 2 TBSP white vinegar Directions Mix all ingr

One Mistake Can Change Your Life

When thinking of a whitetail hunt, one tends to think of the deer they might be after, the weather conditions or where they might sit, but not typically the overall safety of that hunt. Until this day, tree stand safety crossed my mind on occasion, but it only took two minutes on a cool evening in October to change that. On October 17, 2017 as my husband and I packed our gear, we were looking forward to a great evening in the woods, hoping to get me a shot at a mature whiteta

    Preserving Wild Game

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of FoodSaver®; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. National Hunting and Fishing day will be here September 22, and there’s no better way to spend the day than in the great outdoors reconnecting with friends and loved ones! Most likely the day will be spent hunting or fishing, so let’s not forget about preserving our wild game that is harvested. Keep your game fresh by bringing along your GameSaver ® Bi

    Wild Boar Quiche

Quiche is a great dish for weekend brunch, and although it might sound fancy...it's actually quite easy to make and can be customized to your specific tastes. In this recipe, I used wild boar meat, but any wild game (or other meat) will do! Prep time: 15 minutes Bake time 40 minutes Ingredients: Pre-made pie crust (or you can make your own) 1/2 lb. wild game sausage Vegetables of your choice, such as broccoli, mushrooms, onions, etc. Shredded cheese 6 large eggs* 1 cup milk*

    Product Review: Southern Racks

I'm so excited to be sharing one of my favorite products with you, Southern Racks all-natural scent-free products for both men and women! I tried the women's line, and I have to say...I'm impressed! I have always been a bit skeptical of certain scent-free products because I want to be sure that I am using something that I love and does not make me feel gross after using it. Southern Racks products are all salon-quality products designed by a hunter and cosmetologist, which i

    5-Step Wild Game Chili Mac

With the conclusion of Labor Day, everyone's thoughts turn towards fall. This means long days spent hunting, for me. After being in the wetland, field or woods all day, the last thing I want to do is spend time cooking. One of my go-to recipes is chili mac and cheese. It is super easy and filling. It can be made with any ground wild game and boxed mac and cheese. What you will need 1 box mac and cheese Milk, amount listed on mac and cheese box Butter, amount listed on mac and

Deer Warts. What is it? And is it safe?

I live right near the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in southeast Idaho, and have one of the only wooded lots in the neighborhood. When we purchased the house last fall, the backyard was completely overgrown and there actually wasn’t a yard. The realtor told us she thought a small buck had been bedding under the porch, and there were multiple deer trails and beds in the trees. We have since cleared some of the yard, but left plenty of wooded area—not only for privacy, but al
