Carly Brasseux

Texas

My name is Carly Brasseux and I live in Dallas, TX.

I’m really just a normal city girl who became a little outdoorsy by starting to hunt in the Texas Panhandle. I’m a mom of two kids, a wife and a business owner.

Don’t tell anyone, but I secretly have a love-hate relationship with hunting. Each year, when August rolls around and my husband and I start discussing Labor Day weekend (opening dove weekend!), I start to realize what my next few months will look like. We will have lots of weekends with my husband away. I’ll have weekends by myself with my (crazy!) kids. Money will be flowing out for corn, cams, lease fees… and… the list goes on… It means asking grandparents and paying babysitters to watch the kids when I do go on our hunting trips. It sounds like I hate it, but, at the same time, it means that my husband gets to fill up his love tank (all through hunting!). It means he and I will get to sneak away for weekends without our kids, and, most importantly, we get to spend time outdoors, together, doing something we both love.

I didn’t grow up hunting and I’m definitely not a tomboy or an outdoorsy girl. I started because I fell in love with a man who has hunted his whole life. My husband is a true outdoorsman; he’d rather be cruising out in the country or sitting on a hillside glassing for animals than almost any place else in the world. I learned very quickly that he was going to hunt with or without me, so I figured, if you can’t beat ‘em, you better join ‘em.

I am now a hunter. I am now an outdoors(wo)man. I hunt to conserve our land. I hunt to conserve our animal populations. I hunt to put food on my family’s table.
