Classic Sloppy Joes are a quick and easy meal for any day of the week. The best part, it can be made with any ground meat. Plus, it's so simple to customize it for whatever your tastebuds desire.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground deer (sub elk or beef)
½ cup diced yellow onion
½ cup bell pepper
1-2 Jalapenos (optional)
1 Tsp Garlic salt
1 Tsp Garlic powder
1 Tsp Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning
2 Tbsp Apple Cider vinegar
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ cup Ketchup
½ cup BBQ sauce
½ cup real bacon bits or chopped bacon
Directions:
Combine ground deer, onion, bell pepper, jalapenos, and seasonings in a large skillet and cook until onions are soft and the meat is cooked throughout.
Add Worcestershire, ketchup, barbeque sauce, apple cider vinegar, and bacon bits/chopped bacon to the meat mixture.
Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes until all ingredients are hot and mixture is thickened.
Don't like it spicy? Eliminate the jalapenos.
Like extra spice? Make it Jalapeno Popper Sloppy Joe
Add 1 cup of cheddar cheese, 1 block of cream cheese (cut into cubes), and additional jalapeno peppers to the meat mixture and stir to combine.
Substitute candied jalapenos (i.e., Cowboy Candy) for plain jalapenos for a sweet and spicy flavor.
