Slow Cooker Wild Game Pot Roast

Fall and winter are the perfect time for comfort foods...and pot roast is one of my favorites. Hard to beat a juicy roast that's been cooking all day in the slow cooker with carrots and potatoes. Ingredients 2 lb wild game pot roast (I used a moose roast, but deer, elk, bear, etc. will work too! 1 packet ranch dressing mix 1 cup beef broth 1/4 cup butter, sliced 4 pepperoncini peppers 4 potatoes, quartered 1 bag baby carrots Directions Place roast in slow cooker and surround

Mexican Style Grouse with Cilantro Lime Rice

Although I enjoy cooking, I don't like spending a lot of time doing it. I like quick meals that are easy to make and don't require a ton of special ingredients--especially in the fall when it's hunting season and I'm trying to squeeze in a quick evening hunt. For this recipe, I used grouse that we had shot the weekend prior, but you could use turkey, venison or any other meat of your choice. Additionally, many of the ingredients are optional and dependent on your specific tas

North American Waterfowl Slam - Interview with Mike Bard

What is the North American Waterfowl Slam? To people that aren’t involved in waterfowl hunting, the only “slam” they might know of is a Grand Slam in reference to a baseball game. However, to waterfowlers, the word “slam” means something entirely different. The North American Waterfowl Slam consists of 41-47 birds and subspecies. It’s a varying number because some hunters count color-phase birds, and others do not. Mike Bard, one of the lucky individuals who can say they have

6-Ingredient Wild Game and Zucchini Pasta

This recipe is easy, fast, and a one-pot wonder! This recipe is perfect when you are short on ingredients. You can skip step one if you have leftover, pre-cooked ground meat. Any type of pasta works but I would recommend not using spaghetti type noodles. What You Need 1 lb ground wild game 1 can beef broth 1 can diced tomatoes 2 cups uncooked rotini pasta 2 cups sliced zucchini 3/4 cup parmesan cheese Get Cooking Brown ground game meat in skillet and drain excess grease. Recipe: Sweet Chili Wild Turkey and Fried Rice

During hunting season, I'm always looking for quick and easy things to make for dinner so I can hunt in the evenings. I found the Panda Express Sweet Chili Sauce while purchasing the Orange Sauce for venison nuggets, and since I've ordered the Sweet Chili Chicken at Panda Express, I knew I'd like this flavor. This meal took about 30 minutes, and I will definitely be making it again! Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Ingredients 1 lb. wild turkey breast 2 eggs, beate

    Product Review: Balleck Dry Shower

Earlier this year, I saw Balleck Dry Shower on Instagram and I decided to give it a try. They say that the fitter you are, the more you sweat and I am a really fit person…if you know what I mean. Managing perspiration and its side effects is foremost in my mind when hunting, I always bring extra shirts and change my socks every day (I alternate days in the backcountry). Even if you are staying in a house/lodge/hotel, there isn’t always time to wash and dry your hair between c

    Traeger Grill Smoked Wild Duck

First, let's talk about Traeger Grills. I was frequently seeing ads for these grills and posts about them on the internet and social media--a grill that can smoke and cook your meat. Since I frequently smoke a lot of fish and meat, I knew I had to try it. I received one for Christmas and I could not wait to put it together. The assembly was simple, even for someone that's not the greatest at putting things together (so, thank you Traeger it’s not in a million pieces!). Before

Tips for Selecting the Best Attractants

I run several trail cameras nearly year-round which requires the constant changing of batteries and SD cards--and putting out attractants. There are licks, drops, foggers, bombs, sticks, wicks, pads and sprays. With so many different types of attractants on the market, the best way to decide what works best in your area is simply to try a few. I’ve used several types of attractants and the fact is, some of them work great and some of them don’t seem to work at all. Here are a

    Grilled Wild Pork Tenderloins

Wild pork is leaner and typically has a richer flavor than store-bought, domestic pork. This recipe includes an overnight marinade to further enhance the flavor. A quick seer on the grill finishes it to perfection. Ingredients Two wild pork tenderloins 1 cup Olive oil (or whichever oil you prefer) 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 3 TBSP mixed herbs 5 hot chilies, finely chopped (or 3 TBSP dried red chilies) Directions Mix olive oil, vinegar, herbs and chilies. Place tenderloins in sm

    Tips for Photographing Your Harvest

We, as hunters, will always receive criticism by those who adamantly oppose hunting and/or trapping. We may not always be able to change their opinion, but we can definitely influence the way they see us. We can also influence the opinions of those who fall in the middle, those who are indifferent on the topic. By ensuring we show respect during the process of documenting our harvests, we can limit the negative thoughts others may have. Do your best to convey the humility, re
